Degree Committee for the Faculty of Physics & Chemistry

Final approval for the PhD is conditional on you submitting a hardbound copy of the final version of your thesis for deposition in the University Library, and an electronic copy to the University's institutional repository Apollo. When submitting your electronic thesis you will need to confirm the appropriate level of access both it and the hardbound should be given.

You are advised to wait until all your corrections have been completed and approved by your Examiner(s) before producing the final version.

Hardbound thesis format & submission

The requirements for the hardbound thesis and instructions for submission are available on the Cambridge Students website.

If you were granted permission to include a CD with your soft-bound thesis you should also submit a copy of the CD inside the cover of your hardbound thesis.

Electronic copy

From 1 October 2017 an electronic copy of your hardbound thesis needs to be submitted to the University repository, Apollo. You can do this using the upload form at https://upload.repository.cam.ac.uk/. If you are having difficulty with the 'date awarded' field please use 1 January and the year of award. The electronic copy must be identical to the final version approved by your examiners and submitted as a hardbound thesis to Student Registry.

You and your supervisor will need to decide the appropriate level of access to your thesis. You request the access level on the 'access confirmation form' which you upload with your electronic version of your thesis. The Degree Committee is only consulted if both parties cannot agree the access level, or in the very rare event that restricted access is requested. Guidance on levels of access is provided by the Office of Scholarly Communications, not the Degree Committee. Further information and guidance about electronic deposit and access levels be found here.

What happens next?

When you have submitted your hardbound and electronic copy you will receive a final approval email from Student Registry. Congratulations! You may now arrange your Congregation through the Praelector at your College.
