Degree Committee for the Faculty of Physics & Chemistry

Your Department Postgraduate Office is responsible for distributing applications to the relevant Course Director or potential supervisor, and for receiving decisions after each application has been given due consideration. They will provide you with guidance of the admissions processes followed in your Department.

If you are eligible to act as Principal Supervisor, have sufficient capacity to take on additional students, and wish to consider applications from new students, you should familiarise yourself with the University's policy for considering the admission of new postgraduate students.

Candidates to whom you wish an offer to be made should be interviewed - by Skype if not in person.

Formal offers of admission are made by the University's Graduate Admissions Office on the recommendation of the Degree Committee and Department. You should avoid direct verbal or written communications with applicants that might be construed to constitute an offer. Offers of funding can be made by departments, but admission is always dependent on the University agreeing to make an offer, so it is wise to check this is likely before offering funding.

If an applicant does not have the miniumum academic qualifications required by the Faculty, an academic supporting case will need to be put forward by the department at the point of requesting the offer and the applicant must have been interviewed formally.
